Steven Wade

Steven Wade is a photographer who was born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut, and now resides in New Haven, Connecticut. He was interested in photography for as long as he could remember, but became more serious about it in 2016. He predominantly does street photography in New Haven, but also enjoys making photographs of anything that he finds interesting. Steven predominantly uses photography as a means to explore the world, being, and himself. He likes to think of photographs as visual poems.

Steven’s influences are many—how could they not be? Photographically he is inspired by Gary Winogrand, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Diane Arbus, Joel Meyerowitz, and Alec Soth to name a few. He is influenced by reflection on his mixed ethnic background (Puerto Rican/Italian/Irish) and often thinks about the idea of the United States as a melting pot, and the blending and clashing of cultures that comes with that. Other influences come from western and eastern philosophy, and favored filmmakers like Tarkovsky, Kubrick, and David Lynch.

Steven has had a few photographs featured in two group exhibitions, but aims to find his voice as a photographic artist and create a more focused body of work. Until then he will keep roaming and shooting finding inspiration and using creative energy as it comes.

In addition to photography, Steven is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and works as a psychotherapist. Prior to his time in mental health he served in the US Marine Corps.
